2006 FALL LEAGUE MEETING

1st Order of Business - Budget:
- Diana addressed the league budget: showing a profit of approximately $500.00 (needs to be reviewed in detail asap).
This came from not utilizing all fields due to rainouts and from league sponsors.
- Reminder of the purpose of the league is to build a playground at the sportsfield, therefore, more profit = better.
- Discussed having a kitty in order to cover deposit on following season’s fields.
- Discussed league fees of $800.00 should be increased this year due to cost of umps different from league play vs. playoffs.
2nd Order of Business - Umps:
- No change to cost of fields or cost of umps for 2007 that we know of
- Lack of umps for two games last year
- Phone calls to umps being made the day of game or day before game: not enough notice
- No detailed list for year of which umps worked which games - which was requested multiple times
- NSA league to allocate its own umps…Barry volunteering
- *more teams need to be represented at umpire clinics….favorables interested in umping. Possibly requiring each team to provide one member to attend the clinic... this may create the interest in more working umpires
3rd Order of Business - Calaper of teams:
- possibility of splitting league into two divisions, competitive vs. recreational
- Diana suggested Sunday for rec. league, Tuesday for comp. league
- Questioned was the need for umps in the rec. league; it was decided that umpires are the selling feature of the league therefore, umps will be at all games.
4th Order of Business - League Fees:
- Sponsors? Not reliable, and yet to be determined for 2007
- Not setting a dollar figure yet but estimating $900.00
- Some fundraising topics... draw at Mission Sports Fields (DeMarini)-concession is willing to sell tickets
- Possible fundraising tournament
5th Order of Business - Retainer fee and fines:
- Retainer: In advance to cover fines, rejections, and teams not showing up - to cover cost of field and umpire for no-shows as well as a fine if a team does not have someone represented at ump clinic
- Fines:
Fines given to a team as opposed to an individual-voted on at spring meeting
- $50.00 suggested for the retainer to cover both fees and fines
6th Order of Business - Playground:
- Estimated $30,000.00 needed for playground
Need more recognition of league sponsors. Ex. No one knew Boston Pizza was a sponsor
Benefits card needed sooner before league starts
7th Order of Business - Rules:
- More discussion on this to be done at Spring meeting
- Voting to be done as a team, therefore, one vote per team - only teams from prior year gets vote
- League vs. house rules?
- Should be allowed to pick up players with playoffs to be different - Diana indicated insurance issues
- pitcher/catcher rule: to be voted on at Spring meeting
- rec. team will have strike mats, comp. league will have strike zone
- run limit vs. time limit vs. mercy rule... was brought up that splitting the league into rec. & comp should eliminate some of the mercy issues
- discussed having a poll on website for some changes to rules (ie. pitcher/catcher rule)
- both teams report scores: decreases sandbagging and insures scores are in
8th Order of Business - League Executive:
- Voting done by those represented, must have been on a team in the previous season to have a vote
- Must be present to vote or be nominated unless a written letter expressing willingness to be nominated required if not present
- The following positions were voted and accepted:
- Webmaster: Diana Veitch (Adanacs)
- President: Diana Veitch (Adanacs)
- Vice-President: Barry Moore (Habaneros)
- Treasurer: Michelle Barker (Adanacs)
- Secretary: Nicole Provost (Kremators)
- Scheduler/Stats: Nicole Provost (Kremators)...Mike Bentien absent, all agreed position was vacant
8th Order of Business - New Business
- ad in paper for league?
- Sport Kelowna book to have contact name for league
- Kick off tournament – difficult to commit to.
Executive will meet in the new year to prepare and set dates for spring meeting.
