About the Kelowna Major Mixed Slo-Pitch League

The concept of the Kelowna Major Mixed Slo-Pitch League came into light when conversations came up over wanting a change with mixed slo-pitch in Kelowna. When negotiations in 2004/2005 with the existing leagues fell to a 'We're not ready to change' conclusion, ideas started to come together for starting a new league... If the existing leagues don't want to change, we'll just build our own.

In 2006 we started the league with 10 teams playing on Tuesday nights. In 2007, we divided the league into a Sunday Recreational division and a Tuesday Competitive division, having 6 and 10 teams respectively. The number of teams for 2008 is dependant on field availablity, but there apears to be a demand for EXPANTION, yet again; so somebody must like what we are doing!

THIS IS NOT AN 'Ump-Your-Own' league! Ump-Your-Own seemed to be the biggest concern brought to our attention. The teams who are concerned about a legitimate, non-bias call, or the teams who don't want to put their own umpiring abilities on the line, have expressed a desire to play in an umpired league. 'Ump-Your-Own' does have it's place, and for some people this is the best option, so if you are interested in Ump-Your-Own, please contact Sport Kelowna at www.sportkelowna.com for more information.

Some of the other concerns with running a league came into the discussions 'you could make a lot of money running your own league'... and we truly didn't want this to become all about making a profit, we just wanted to offer something to the game in Kelowna, which has been lacking in the past.... so, we decided to put any profits towards a cause - The MUCH NEEDED PLAYGROUND! By contributing any proceeds, our league will help build a playground at Mission Sports Fields. After the required funds have been raised for the playground, the league will vote for where to allocate any future proceeds within the softball community.

We hope to also accommodate the players and teams who are looking for a change in ball-ethics, league-financial-disclosure, insurance & prizing.
