NSA CO-ED Rules (download rule book here)
2011 league rules apply to ALL divisions unless otherwise stated:
*
Rosters are due online at the beginning of the season (this is your
insurance – please make sure your players are on the roster BEFORE
they play) Roster changes can be made throughout the season. ROSTERS
WILL BE FROZEN 1 MONTH prior to playoffs, after that, no changes can
be made without Executive approval.
-
Players
may only be on ONE
team roster per level/division
(based upon league play). Roster restrictions for this rule only,
are not in effect during seeding play (Competitive Division 8 week
round robin)
-
To
be eligible to play in playoffs, a player must be on the roster of
the team(s) they are playing with.
-
Players
may only play down one level/division unless with prior Executive
approval (i.e. players on a Competitive roster may NOT play in
Recreational division)
-
FOR
LEAGUE PLAY ONLY, you may pick up a MAXIMUM of TWO players from the
roster of another team within your division or ONE division higherto make
9 players.
As soon as a player from the original roster is available they must
immediately substitute in for the player(s) who was picked up.
-
FOR
LEAGUE PLAYOFFS, players must have played a minimum of FOUR league
games to be eligible for playoffs. EMERGENCY substitutions can be
made with Executive approval at a cost of $5.00 per change to a
maximum of 2 changes.
*
Each team must present the Umpire and the opposing team with a carbon
copy of their batting lineup. Lineup books will be provided to each
team at the beginning of the season. These lineup sheets will be
maintained by the league and will be used to validate player’s for
playoff and appeal purposes.
*
A team may play with 9 players but must have 4 women playing (no
automatic out). The 10th player must be announced to the umpire and
opposing team's scorekeeper PRIOR to them joining the game; they can
join at any time, as long as it does not interrupt game play.
*
Maximum 6 men / minimum 4 women on the field, with a maximum of 12
batters.
*
EP is permitted but must have equal gender EPs (if you add 1 guy, you
must add 1 gal) and if you start with 12 batters, you must play that
way the entire game. EP may substitute with any player on the field
at any time.
*
If a player must leave the game due to injury with no substitution
available, that position in the batting order then becomes an
automatic out - minimum 9 players rule still applies.
*
No restrictions on batting order (as far as how many guys/girls bat
in a row).
*
Home team supplies game balls; 2 of each size (4) will be provided to
the umpire at the beginning of the game. The batting team must
retrieve or replace any foul or home run balls they hit out of the
playing field prior to their first batter of the next inning or that
batter may be called out. Each team will be supplied with one dozen
balls (8 large - male & 4 small - female) at the beginning of the
season.
*
All game balls must be 'optic yellow' core 44 or less for men and
core 47 or less for women. DeMarini Ball** is preferred, though the
brand may vary, colour and the core of the ball (as specified for
each gender) must be used.
*
Bunting allowed by women (must run the bunt line).
*
No 150' line in the outfield (girl line) - fielders may stand where
they want without encroaching on the infield until after the ball is
hit... but remember the women will be using the small ball!
*
Walk rule: ANY walk to a guy with a girl following, the guy gets
second the girl has the OPTION to bat.
*
Pitcher & Catcher must be guy/girl combination
(Intermediate/Competitive only).
*
Pitcher may stand at or behind the pitching rubber.
*
Strike Zone (Intermediate/Competitive) - Strike Mat (Recreational).
*
From HOME PLATE there is a 6 foot scoring line, spanning 6 feet from
home plate towards the left side backstop (the runner does not touch
home plate). If a runner touches home plate with
a play at home
they will be called out - if there is no play at home they will not
be called out. If the play is not a force play, the catcher must tag
the runner OR be in contact with home plate with possession of the
ball as the runner crosses the scoring line; the runner has the
option to return to third at ANY TIME. The runner must make an effort
to avoid a collision with the back catcher, anyone found to be
intentionally charging the back catcher will be called out.
*
7 innings EXCEPT if one team is ahead by: twenty (20) runs after
three (3) innings, fifteen (15) runs after four (4) innings, and ten
(10) runs after five (5) innings.
*
Recreational Division ONLY - 7 run limits per inning with the 7th
inning open, IF you get to the 7th inning.
*
There will be a 10 minute grace period from each game's scheduled
start time.
*
Each game will have no new innings started after 1 hour 10 minutes
from SCHEDULED start time. This will need to be strictly enforced;
the umpire does not need to announce the "last inning".
*
If home team is leading at the bottom of the last inning they do not
take their last bat.
*
Maximum of 3 courtesy runners is allowed per game. The courtesy
runner MUST be a FEMALE (no matter the gender of the person requiring
the runner) who is currently on the batting line-up, preferably
furthest away in the batting order - this does NOT have to be the
last girl out.
*
Three (3) out of the park home runs allowed per team, then the one-up
home run rule is in effect; once both teams have reached their
respective home run limits, either team may hit an additional home
run, however, no team may ever go more than one home run up on the
other team after the maximum per team has been reached. Any
additional home runs above the one-up will be scored as an out.
*
Final scores must be confirmed at the diamond; BOTH team's score
sheets should be signed by that game's umpire. Winning TEAM must
report the score. Check website for scorekeepers contact info - HANG
ON to your signed score sheets; if there is any discrepancies with
the scores, this is your back-up!
